CESQG/Business Waste
A CESQG is a Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator, which is a business that generates 27 gallons, 220 lbs or less of hazardous waste per month. Businesses that generate less than 2.2 lbs or less of extremely hazardous waste are also considered to be a CESQG. The most common CESQGs are painters, print shops, auto shops, builders, churches, schools, non-profit groups and property managers. These businesses are required to use a licensed hazardous waste hauler to manifest and transport their waste.
"Cradle to Grave” responsibility: the RCRA Act
The most important regulation governing hazardous waste is the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). This Act was set up to protect human health and the environment from potential hazards of waste disposal by reducing the amount of waste generated and ensuring that the waste is properly managed. It set up guidelines whereby hazardous waste generators must track waste from the moment it enters the disposal site as hazardous material, to its eventual treatment and disposal. The generator’s responsibility may go beyond the grave if the waste is not handled properly and pollutes the environment. He may be held responsible (in part) for the cleanup.
The Riverside CESQG Program
The CESQG program is a hazardous waste pick-up disposal service for eligible businesses/non-profit organizations in the County of Riverside. This program provides an affordable way to legally dispose of this waste.
