How to Start Electric Service
If you are new to the Moreno Valley Utility (MVU) service area, you can arrange to start electric service to your home or business by calling the MVU Customer Service Center at (877) 811-8700 (open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year). During the service start-up process, you will be asked to verify your identity and establish credit with MVU.
Verifying Your Identity
The federal government has established new regulations to protect consumers from identity theft and credit fraud. These regulations require MVU to verify the identity of customers requesting service. To comply with the new federal regulations which protect the identity of consumers, MVU utilizes an online identity verification service. During the service initiation process, information about you and any co-applicant will be requested including social security number, date of birth, driver’s license number, previous addresses, and employment information. In compliance with federal regulations, MVU has established processes which secure the storage and access of your personal and confidential information.
If you do not have a social security number, you will be asked to take two forms of identification to our local office in order to verify your identity. One of the two forms of identification must be a government issued picture identification. MVU’s local office is located at 14325 Frederick Street, Suite 9, Moreno Valley.
Establishing Credit
During the service initiation process, you will also need to establish credit for your MVU account. If you have had previous service with MVU in the past 12 months with a good payment history, the deposit requirement will be waived. Otherwise, MVU will utilize a credit rating evaluation to determine whether a deposit will be required on your account.
The amount required for a deposit is based on an amount approximately two times the average monthly bill for electric service. See MVU’s current Rate Schedule for applicable fees and deposits.
When a deposit is required, the amount of the deposit must be paid in full prior to the start of electric service.
We look forward to serving you! |
