News Release

Reading Colors Your World! and Summer Meals for Children at the Moreno Valley Public Library

For immediate release: June 16, 2021

Get a fresh perspective with the Moreno Valley Public Library during the 2021 Summer Discovery program, “Reading Colors Your World!” Readers of all ages can sign up online at moval.org/mv-library/summerdiscovery and take part in a summer reading challenge. Pre-registration opens online on Monday, June 14, with logging points starting on Wednesday, June 16th, culminating with prize drawings on Saturday, August 7th. Join our sidewalk chalk art show at the program’s kick-off and check out our library events calendar all summer long.

Please let your local library branch know whether you prefer to track your Summer Discovery reading online or on paper. Either way, Summer Discovery readers can stop by the library for a weekly prize. Digital badges will be awarded for meeting literacy challenges such as reading a new author and completing fun activities like having a screen-free day. The more minutes you spend reading, the more points you accrue. Along with digital badges, participants can earn prize drawing tickets.

Starting Wednesday, June 16th, children ages 2 to 18 or their parent/caregiver may pick up free Grab & Go meals provided by the Moreno Valley Unified School District, Monday through Friday, 10:30 am-12 noon, at the Main Library at 25480 Alessandro Blvd. Research shows that summer reading and nutritious meals prepare children for academic success.

“Many of us rediscovered our love of reading during the pandemic, so we are grateful for our community partners, the Moreno Valley Unified School District, the Moreno Valley Friends of the Library, Quality Start, and Riverside University Health System, in helping to make our annual summer reading challenge special,” Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez said.
