Moreno Valley Accepting Applications for District 2 City Council Seat
For immediate release: February 17, 2021
The City of Moreno Valley is accepting applications from residents to serve the remainder of the District 2 City Council term left vacant. District 2 takes in most of the City north of State Route 60. Applicants must be at least 18, reside within the boundaries of District 2 and be registered to vote in Moreno Valley. The current vacant term runs through 2022.
Under the law, the Mayor and City Council have until March 22 to appoint someone to fill the seat. If no appointment is made by then, the position will be up for election on November 2, 2021. The person elected would serve the final year of the term.
"The application process will give us a good sense of the community's interest in the position," explained Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. "Councilmembers and I will have the opportunity to screen applications and interview anyone who applies. After that, we will decide whether to appoint or let the vacancy be filled by voters."
Applications will be accepted in the City Clerk’s office until 4 p.m. on February 25, 2021. The online application, including more information about the position and the process, is located on the City website at www.MoVal.org/council.

Moreno Valley Acepta Solicitudes para el Asiento del Concejo Municipal del Distrito 2
La Ciudad de Moreno Valley está aceptando solicitudes de residentes para servir el resto del término del Concejo Municipal del Distrito 2 que quedó vacante. El Distrito 2 incluye la mayor parte de la ciudad al norte de la Ruta estatal 60. Los solicitantes deben tener al menos 18 años, residir dentro de los límites del Distrito 2 y estar registrados para votar en Moreno Valley. El período vacante actual se extiende hasta 2022.
Por ley, el Alcalde y el Concejo Municipal tienen hasta el 22 de marzo para designar a alguien para ocupar el puesto. Si no se hace ningún nombramiento para entonces, el puesto estará disponible para elección el 2 de noviembre de 2021. La persona elegida serviría el último año del mandato.
"El proceso de solicitud nos dará una buena idea del interés de la comunidad en el puesto", explicó el Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Alcalde de Moreno Valley. "Los concejales y yo tendremos la oportunidad de examinar las solicitudes y entrevistar a cualquier solicitante. Después de eso, decidiremos si nombramos a alguien o permitimos que los votantes decidan".
