City of Moreno Valley to Host Councilwoman Thornton Memorial Service
Outdoor Event Alto to be Live Streamed

The City of Moreno Valley will host a memorial service for District 2 City Councilwoman Dr. Carla J. Thornton, who passed away January 21 following an illness.
The event, which is set for Friday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m., at the Veterans Memorial located at the Civic Center, 14177 Frederick St., will also be live streamed on the City's Facebook and YouTube accounts and on TV channel MV3.
The service will adhere to state and county guidelines intended to slow transmission of coronavirus.
"Because she was a proud veteran as well as a member of the City Council, the Veterans Memorial at City Hall seems like the perfect place for an outdoor event to honor Carla," said Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. "While it is open to the public, seating will be limited for health reasons, and I invite those especially at risk to watch the live stream instead."
The Veterans Memorial will remain open from the Friday event through Sunday, Feb. 7, should members of the public wish to pay their respects.
Dr. Thornton's family has created a GoFundMe account to help support her only child.

"Mientras esté abierto al público, los asientos estarán limitados por razones de salud, e invito a los que estén especialmente en riesgo que miren la transmisión en vivo".
El Monumento a los Veteranos permanecerá abierto desde el viernes hasta el domingo 7 de febrero, si los miembros del público desean dar sus respetos.
