Three City of Moreno Valley employees have been honored for valor by the Mayor and City Council for actions they took while on duty that saved lives. On December 16, 2020, David Serna and Alfred Fierro provided emergency assistance to people involved in a serious traffic collision at the intersection of Kitching and Eucalyptus, while James Gutierrez took charge and redirected traffic until police could arrive.

"We pride ourselves on always trying to provide excellence in customer service, and these three City employees did that and so much more," said Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. "They selflessly put the well-being and safety of others above that of their own, which is the highest expression of public service."

The three men were working nearby when the collision occurred and Serna and Fierro rendered aid immediately prior to emergency responders being able to get to the scene. Serna extracted a passenger from a vehicle and wrapped him in his jacket in case the person was going into shock. At the same time, Fierro extinguished a fire that started in one of the vehicles. Gutierrez redirected traffic safely around the accident scene. Police say one or more of the people involved in the wreck could have died without the men's immediate assistance.

The three heroic workers were honored at the January 19 City Council meeting with the City's highest honor, the Mayor's Award for Valor.

Empleados de la Ciudad Honrados por su Valor por el Alcalde y el Consejo Municipal

Tres empleados de la Ciudad de Moreno Valley han sido honrados por su valor por el Alcalde y el Concejo Municipal por las acciones que tomaron mientras estaban de servicio y que salvaron vidas. El 16 de diciembre de 2020, David Serna y Alfred Fierro brindaron asistencia de emergencia a las personas involucradas en una colisión de tráfico grave en la intersección de Kitching y Eucalyptus, mientras James Gutiérrez se hizo cargo y redirigió el tráfico hasta que llegó la policía.

Serna sacó a un pasajero de un vehículo y lo envolvió en su chaqueta en caso de que la persona entrara en shock. Al mismo tiempo, Fierro extinguió un incendio que empezó en uno de los vehículos. Gutiérrez redirigió el tráfico de manera segura alrededor de la escena del accidente. La policía dice que una o más de las personas involucradas en el accidente podrían haber muerto sin la ayuda inmediata de los hombres.

Los tres heroicos trabajadores fueron honrados en la reunión del Concejo Municipal el 19 de enero con el honor más alto de la Ciudad, el Premio del Alcalde al Valor.
