News Release

Statement from Mayor Gutierrez Regarding Reported Covid-19 Case

For immediate release: March 25 2020

A worker in one of Amazon’s fulfillment centers in Moreno Valley has tested positive for Covid-19. It is not known if the worker lives in the City of Moreno Valley because everyone’s personal medical information is considered private. The worker is undergoing treatment, and several co-workers have been directed to self-quarantine and are under observation by health officials.

The coronavirus pandemic is affecting nearly every community nationwide, and it is no surprise that there is an increase in positive cases. Health officials from the CDC, State of California, and Riverside County Public Health have repeatedly communicated to the public to expect an increase in such cases.

This is precisely why Governor Newsom issued the Stay at Home order. Along with social distancing and proper hand washing, it remains the most effective means of slowing the spread of the virus.

Though this is a situation that has to get worse before it gets better, please know that we are in this together and the full resources of the City of Moreno Valley have been working to support the CDC, State of California, and Riverside County Public Health as they work to fight this virus.

Please follow the advice we have provided on moval.org/coronavirus, which comes from federal, state, and local health officials.

I am here to serve you, and I will be with you every step of the way as we navigate this global crisis. Together, we will get through this.
