City of Moreno Valley Parks and Recreation Department
wins Golden Shield Award

Moreno Valley is the first city in Riverside County to receive this honor.

The City of Moreno Valley's Parks and Recreation Department has been selected to receive the Golden Shield Award from the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation (SCMAF). It's the highest award this organization presents to parks and recreation agencies.

The award, established in 1984, is given to agencies that have made outstanding contributions to the federation. Award winners must demonstrate the following: outstanding leadership in the organization; acceptance of responsibilities and performance of services above and beyond normal programs; active membership for at least seven years, and maintenance of high professional standards.

SCMAF was founded in 1949 to provide and promote sports training and competition in response to and conducted by its members. SCMAF provides opportunities to develop physical fitness and lifelong skills in a variety of team and individual sports for persons of all ages and abilities. An awards ceremony and installation banquet will be held in Palm Springs on Friday, December 5, 1997 at the Palm Springs Marquis Hotel.
